Charlie Lucas

Charlie Lucas

Teacher

Charlie Lucas completed his yoga teacher training at CITYoga School of Yoga and Health under the excellent tutelage of Marsha Pappas and Nikki Myers. Charlie initially found yoga as a means to strengthen an ailing lower back, studying at first on his own via books. After reconnecting with an old friend, he finally stepped into a class. Once on the mat, it became evident that there was a greater benefit of yoga in addition to the physical (asana) practice; the centering of the mind, body and spirit within the breath. As an avid student of philosophy and meditation, this former DJ weaves affirming themes throughout his practice with uplifting quotes and thoughts set to fun, well-crafted soundtracks. He draws upon his many musical influences to assemble his class play list. Selections from Motown, Electronic, Rock-n-Roll, Singer Songwriters, Reggae, Funk, World, New-Age, Soul, Classic Rock, Pop to Alternative dot his musical landscape.

Charlie keeps a light hearted & playful approach to his teaching, encouraging students to smile, even laugh; to find joy within their practice. Charlie believes that by holding poses for multiple breaths, it gives time to find calmness, alignment and grace; while building strength, balance and endurance. Charlie is also the creator of “80′s in the 80′s”: A heated yoga flow class set to the music and fashion of the early 1980′s. Charlie has been influenced by many teachers, some of his favorites have been Rolf Gates, David Romanelli, Les Leventhal, Matthew Sanford, Seane Corn, and Chris Roche.

Off the mat, Charlie works for Allison Transmission as a Mechanical Designer. He also spends his "free" time on his mountain bike, cooking, or hanging with friends dining locally & sampling craft beer. Ultimately, Charlie invites students to breathe in the experience that is his yoga flow, establish balance, get centered, and enjoy.

Karen Moratz

Karen Moratz

Teacher

With 24 years’ experience as the Indianapolis Symphony’s Principal Flutist, Karen Moratz is well-acquainted with the benefits of linking breath, movement and body dynamics. She likens her work as a professional musician to that of a professional athlete and so has embraced yoga as a means of bringing mind, body, spirit and music together in harmony and at the center of her life's journey. She combines breathing techniques, body alignment, and the Alexander Technique with her music instruction as well as her yoga classes, confirming for herself – and for her students – that the body itself is our primary instrument. Karen holds a 200 RYT certification from Cityoga and is registered with the Yoga Alliance. She teaches both flute lessons and yoga classes at Butler University.

Karen feels truly fortunate to be making music every day and teaching flute lessons and yoga classes on a regular basis. When not concertizing or practicing yoga, she enjoys traveling with her wonderful and supportive husband George as well as gardening at their Broad Ripple home.

Camilla Bonnicel

Camilla Bonnicel

Teacher

In January 2015 my life completely changed! Together with my French husband, I moved from my hometown Gothenburg, Sweden to Indianapolis. My husband’s work brought us here and I left my job so we could start a new adventure together.

My first attempts at yoga was at an Iyengar Yoga studio back home, about 15 years ago. But I didn´t fall in love with yoga directly. I did yoga on and off for a few years, but it was not until the beginning of 2014 that I really connected with it and felt that yoga could really be something for me. I had an opportunity to get trained in and start to teach a Hatha-inspired Yoga. During the spring of 2014 I began my training and in July I was certified and started teaching. I led at least two classes a week to students in the ages of 13 up to 80+ from the summer and until we moved here to Indy. This was a great experience and the students´ interest and dedication gave me so much joy.

In late August 2014 and throughout the autumn I participated in a MedicalYoga (MediYoga) teacher training which resulted in me being licensed as a MediYoga Instructor in December 2014. For me as a registered nurse this is a good way to combine my interest and knowledge about both medicine and yoga. During spring 2015 I had the opportunity to volunteer teaching MediYoga at Eskenazi Health Midtown, at the Respite Care unit which is a short term facility for people with serious mental health issues and chronic addictions who are getting ready to re-enter the community. This was an experience which I am really thankful for and learned a lot from.

In mid August of 2015 I finalize my 200 Hour Teacher Traning in Vinyasa Yoga with Invoke Yoga Studio in Indianapolis :-)
